IZIKO LOBOMI - Centre of Life - 24 x 7 x 365!

The HBCCA was able to install a web camera in the main hall in September 2015

thanks to a sponsorship received from Gartner Africa

For the first time everyone get the full picture of

what our facilities really mean to the community of Imizamo Yethu.

The following photographs are only a small number taken over a period

of four months.

Iziko Lobomi is truly a...

CENTRE OF LIFE!

Thank you to all our loyal supporters who are making it possible for us

Brick by Brick: A Story of Hope!

A Gartner Africa Community Upliftment Project

In response to the need expressed by unemployed and unskilled men in the community

of Imizamo Yethu for opportunities to be better equipped, the HBCCA approached Gartner Africa

for funds to train six men in the skill of Bricklaying. Gartner Africa responded generously

and a two-week training session kicked off on Monday 14 September 2015.

This is the largest training project in the history of Iziko Lobomi offered specifically

for men. These skills will open valuable new opportunities for these men

giving them new hope and making them proud!

Of the six men that started the training, the following five completed it successfully:

The men who received the training are:

Sibusiso Tikilili  - 071 733 9069

Eric Dlomo - 071 802 9888

Gladstone Ndude - 078 792 8091 (this is his brother Ishmael's phone)

Luvuyo Mtikitiki - 078 119 9830

Buyile Gwabile - 083 974 3143

In need of a bricklayer? Please call one of these men!

Youth Development Programme Meeting at Iziko Lobomi

The Western Cape Government is also reaching out to the community of Imizamo

Yethu with their Youth Development Programme to

assist youth between the ages of 14 and 25 years of age who are not in education,

not in employment or training. This age group is currently

mainly responsible for the wave of crime and violence that has created chaos

and much fear in parts of Imizamo Yethu.

Police Pledges Their Full Support to IY Community

A meeting attended by several high ranking police officers from the Department of Police was held at Iziko Lobomi on Thursday evening (30 July 2015) during which the residents of Imizamo Yethu were assured that the Department of Police will and is doing everything in their power to maintain law and order in the community. This meeting followed after several serious criminal incidents in and around Imizamo Yethu of which one was the fatal stabbing of a 27-year old Congolese student earlier in the month. The police encouraged community members to join their local Neighbourhood Watch and to report any suspicious behaviour or activities. The community are the eyes and ears of the police and without their cooperation the fight against crime in the community will not be successful.

Iziko Lobomi's Own VISITOR'S ROOM

With a donation received from one of the Management Committee Members one of the containers at Iziko Lobomi was converted into a Visitor's Room. With the many visitors visiting our Centre everyday a need developed for a specific space that could be used to tell the story of Iziko Lobomi and which could also serve as exhibition space for the many artwork and crafts offered for sale in the Centre. The feedback from visitors have been very positive and the following photographs will enable you to a 'virtual visit' too!

Kitchen Upgrade Completed!

After much sweat and toil the kitchen upgrade was completed at the beginning of the year. Funds received from Valley Church (a local Hout Bay church) and Gartner Africa (a local IT company and longstanding anchor and founding sponsor of many years) made it possible for us to give the existing kitchen a complete overall. All work in the kitchen was done using labourers from the Imizamo Yethu community. Stripping the existing cupboards and removing the existing ship container timber floors were a huge task. It was a task that required serious sweet and toil for several weeks but as the saying goes 'all's well that ends well!"

Thank you to our two sponsors for giving the HEART of Iziko Lobomi this wonderful gift!
